LiquidWeb is a start-up company operating within the ICT field, with special focus in ubiquitous computing, mobile services and cloud computing technologies, with applications in mobile apps for iPhone, iPad and Android platforms, design of smart environments, pervasive technologies and internet of things applications, unified communication and web collaboration. LiquidWeb developed Braincontrol (class I CE medical device, www.braincontrol.it), an innovative and modular Augmentative Alternative Communicator Assistive Communicator for LIS (Locked-in State) and CLIS patients, based on brain-computer interface technology (BCI) interpreting electrical signals that correspond with certain brain activity and allows a computer or other external devise to be controlled with thoughts.

Liquid web has developed Braincontrol which provides non-invasive brain-computer interface (BCI) technology, currently targeted at severely disabled people in ‘locked-in’ state, but applicable for stroke etc. Braincontrol’s innovative CE-marked platform has been validated and published in early-stage trials and larger multi-centre trials are planned. Working prototypes are available for other applications. The uniqueness of the Braincontrol platform is due to the software (patent applied for) currently linked to commercial Emotiv headset sensors, coupled with portability. Braincontrol allows disabled people to control objects with their own thoughts. 3.7 million people worldwide suffer from severe motor and communication disabilities due to ALS, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophies, ischemic or traumatic injuries. Braincontrol is able to interpret the electrical map corresponding to certain brain activities and allows patients to control a communicator, home automation devices (lights, doors, windows, alarms, temperature, bed position, ...) and other assistive technologies. The interface uses scanners to move between the available options and implements the thought selection movement related to the desired option. Braincontrol is portable and consists of a tablet PC and a wireless EEG headset.
