Linari Engineering is an high tech company active in industrial automation and plant control systems design. Linari Biomedical is the Linari Engineering division developing nano and biomedical applications. In particular, it develops and produces electrospinning technologies and equipments for nanomaterial, nanofibers (also nanobiomaterial), with more than 250 installations all over the world in the main public and private research centers involved in nanotechnologies. The division has recently developed also an e-health solution for visual rehabilitation of emiamnioptics patients (class I medical device, AvDesk device), that can be used also on healthy people to increase their cognitive ability in peripheral visual field, increasing performance in sports, driving, personal defense.
LiquidWeb is a start-up company operating within the ICT field, with special focus in ubiquitous computing, mobile services and cloud computing technologies, with applications in mobile apps for iPhone, iPad and Android platforms, design of smart environments, pervasive technologies and internet of things applications, unified communication and web collaboration. LiquidWeb developed Braincontrol (class I CE medical device, www.braincontrol.it), an innovative and modular Augmentative Alternative Communicator Assistive Communicator for LIS (Locked-in State) and CLIS patients, based on brain-computer interface technology (BCI) interpreting electrical signals that correspond with certain brain activity and allows a computer or other external devise to be controlled with thoughts.
"The Laboratory of Methods and Techniques for Innovation (LMTI) develops tools and methodologies to support the design and development of innovative products and processes and transfer the knowledge acquired to the industrial sphere. The activities of interest, to which correspond the relative services that the Laboratory is able to offer, are related to:
- Reengineering of business processes, based on value innovation and through the definition of methodological tools for the analysis of processes, identification of critical phases, definition of necessary and sustainable innovations for the removal of critical points.
- Conceptual design of products/services
- Problem - Systematic solving, through the skills of methodologies to support the identification of innovative solutions (TRIZ, the laboratory is part of the national center ""Center of Competence for Systematic Innovation"").
- Patent database analysis for retrieving technical knowledge for checking technological trends, analysing the state of the art, identifying the characteristic functions of a patent/product."
"The Laboratory for the Development of Materials for Biosystems (MATBIO) conducts research on multifunctional materials for regenerative medicine and tissue engineering, polysaccharides and liposome systems, micro and nano structured systems and biosensors, molecular recognition processes in solution and at the solid/liquid interface, applications of infrared spectroscopy and secondary ion mass spectrometry for the study of biological materials and systems. High resolution nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) applications are also being developed for model analysis studies of metabolic processes of unicellular organisms and studies of binder-receptor interaction.
Another field of research is the agrifood-energy sector, in particular with the study of processes of production and bio-transformation of vegetable biomass into biofuels and the development of processes of radiation transfer in aquatic ecosystems (analysis of dissolved organic components and interaction with solar and ultraviolet radiation, photodegradation and photoactivation for the production of biomass of aquatic origin).
Born from the experience of its founding partners in the medical industry, Mattioli Engineering develops, manufactures and markets medical devices for dermatology, skin care, cosmetic surgery, plastic surgery and general surgery, based on technologies such as dermoelectroporation, microdermabrasion, endoporation, pulsed light, laser.
Mattioli Engineering developed its first microdermabrasion system in 1991, and since then has continued to develop systems with unique features based on proprietary technology protected by patents and according to GMP quality standards. Today Ultrapeel systems, recognized as standard for this type of technology, FDA approved, are available anywhere in the world, with a presence in the U.S. market of more than 1,500 units installed and in the international market with more than 4,000.
The Ultrapeel microdermabrasion systems have been completed with the introduction of the new patented method called Dermoelectroporation and the Transderm device for the transdermal transmission of drugs that can be used as an alternative to injections, approved by the FDA in 2003.
Microbiotec is a research and development company founded in 2009, spin off of the University of Siena, since 2011 incubated at the Toscana Life Sciences Foundation. It operates in the field of microbial biotechnology, diagnostics, vaccines and immune response evaluation, probiotics, as well as perform transcriptomics data analysis. It has developed and validated a kit for the molecular diagnosis of Mycobacterium Tubercolosis infection, another diagnostic kit for vaginal infections and is developing a vaginal probiotic based on strains of Lactobacillus Crispatus.
Microbiotec is a partner in several European research projects.
